We look forward to 2017 and wish all of our customers a happy and prosperous New Year!
The last several years of drought in California were widely publicized, but wet and snowy weather has returned. It is great for snow lovers and our reservoirs. Transportation, however, is an entirely different story. The drought lulled us into thinking weather was not a factor in traversing Donner Summit, in the winter…yes think the infamous “Donner Party.” Those sunny, clear, drought-stricken winter days are behind us. Major storms have hit Northern California/ Northern Nevada and have closed I-80, which is the main thoroughfare between Oakland and Reno, over several days and more storms are on the way.
If you have cargo destined or originating in the Reno/Sparks area, please expect delays. If you are traveling to Tahoe for fun, please drive safely.
Devine’s own Bennie Gamble, Vice President Nevada, has been nominated and elected to the Nevada Trucking Association’s Board of Directors. He will start his two-year term this month and is excited to take on this new leadership role. Bennie’s activism is one more reason that Devine is industry minded and an industry leader.
At both our transportation office and our warehouse in Nevada, we are prepared for the expected flooding of the Truckee River by placing sandbags around their perimeters. The severe winter storms hitting Northern Nevada and Northern California have led to Nevada’s governor declaring a state of emergency ahead of the expected flooding.
When it is snowing and the snowplow has not made it to your neighborhood yet, you just have to take matters into your own hands.
As the old saying goes…necessity is the mother of invention.
The California Trucking Association, California Highway Patrol and California Department of Transportation join forces to keep trucks and traffic moving during winter storms on I-80 over the Sierra Nevada mountains. Once stopped on the icy roads, trucks can need a little extra help to get moving again. That is where the pusher truck comes into action. It gives big rigs a push to get moving. Watch a brief video and read more here.
Do you know what this part is? It is something used in truck or container transportation.

Sacramento has been called a lot of things and some not so flattering… cow-town, Sacra-tomato…but now think hip. There is a whole new vibe in the area. Join the fun!
The logistics industry has worked very hard to reduce emission levels generated by its operations, and it is working. We are especially proud of the Heavy-Duty Vehicle numbers. In an effort to do our part, Devine has made a significant investment in clean-technology trucks.
The Reno/Sparks area is booming. In 2014, economic planners estimated 52,000 new jobs would be created in the region within five years. Thus far, they are well are track. After just two years, 29,379 new jobs have been generated, and that number does not even include a ramped up Tesla, Panasonic or Switch.
The Reno-sance is in full swing.
Ocean-going containers have been used as barriers to protect soldiers as well as perimeters around bases in combat zones for some time. Now, there is a clever invention inside the container that does the trick…and at a much faster pace. Take a look at the video above.
