The Reno Arch turned 100 last month. In its 100-year history, there have been three different versions of the arch.
The first arch was constructed in 1926 and was intended to be temporary to celebrate the completion of Lincoln and Victory Highways which converged in Reno. The citizens liked it and decided to keep it adding “The Biggest Little City in the World” moniker in 1929.
The second arch was inaugurated on New Year’s Eve 1963 to celebrate Nevada’s centennial. The larger arch kept up with the growing city and modernized the look of downtown Reno.
The third arch, which we see today, was dedicated in 1987 and has undergone color changes over the years.
