Labor unions on both Canadian coasts were locked out early last month due to work slowdowns and beleaguered contract negotiations.
By the 12th of November, Canadian Labor Minister Steve MacKinnon ordered an end to the lockouts and forced the both sides back to the bargaining table along with binding arbitration. In discussing the order, Mr. MacKinnon stated, “The threats to our national interest and the economic well-being of Canadians are too great.”
The union, however, plans to challenge the Labor Minister’s ruling in the courts, claiming the order violates their rights and freedoms.
