As you remember, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) withdrew its zero emissions program, ACF, and the Feds nixed CARB’s companion program, ACT.
We knew CARB would not go quietly into the night, and they have begun to formulate their next plan. Some of their ideas are:
- Create rules for non-exhaust emissions (tires and brakes).
- Scrap and replace trucks.
- Create “green zones” where only clean trucks can enter.
- Set fleet or mileage emission targets.
- Require shippers hiring Class 7 or 8 trucks to utilize fleets that exceed targets.
More to come on this subject, for sure.
