The BUILD America 250 Act includes an amendment to allow states to voluntarily increase gross vehicle weight (GVW) limits from 80,000 pounds to 91,000 pounds. If passed, the equipment would be required to have a sixth axle to distribute the weight.
The legislators made the point GVW has remained unchanged since 1982, and in those forty years, there have been numerous safety technologies.
