Remember the dispute between Portland terminal operator ICTS and the ILWU surrounding work slowdowns that effectively shuttered the Port of Portland back in 2012?
ICTS sued the ILWU, and, in 2019, the court ruled in favor of ICTS and awarded the operator $93.6M, which was later reduced to $19M.
As a result of the on-going legal expenses and costly award, the ILWU has filed for bankruptcy protection.
The terminals in Oakland are closed today, May 1st. Traditionally, the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) shifts its standard, third Thursday of the month, second shift, stop-work meeting to the dayside on May 1st to honor International Workers' Day....
