Watch the video above. The story is something out of a crime novel…murder, bribes, hired pawns, fake limps, unnecessary surgeries.
From 2011 through 2024, Louisiana motor carriers and drivers transiting through Louisiana were plagued with staged accidents. Attorneys Vanessa Motta of Motta Law and Jason Giles of The King Firm actively solicited and worked with slammers, passengers, spotters and recruiters to target commercial vehicles with staged accidents in order to obtain elevated insurance payouts.
The US Attorney’s office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police and Metropolitan Crime Commission began investigating these accidents seven years ago and eventually charged a total of sixty-three people for their involvement.
Last week, the two primary lawyers Motta and Giles were found guilty on all charges for their involvement in these staged accidents. Those charges included conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. They will be sentenced in July 2026.
What they did was a travesty and drove insurance prices and the price of goods up for everyone.
We are thankful they have been brought to justice.
