For you lead-footers out there, North Dakota is raising their speed limit to 80 miles per hour effective August 1st. Do not get too excited. Along with the increased speed limit comes increased fines.
North Dakota is the ninth state to raise its speed limit to 80 mph. They were preceded by Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas (up to 85 mph on some toll roads), Utah and Wyoming.
Since 1995, the individual states have had jurisdiction to set their speed limits.
