Gerlach, NV, a small town in Northern Nevada best known as the last stop before Burning Man, decided a recent election in true Nevada fashion.
In the election for the town’s governing body, Gerlach General Improvement District, there was tie. Both Carl Copek and Seth Schrenzel each received 67 votes. So, how did they settle it? They drew cards of course.
The drawer of the high card will serve the full four-year term, and the low card recipient will serve a two-year term due to a vacancy.
On November 7th, election officials, the candidates and interested observers gathered for the “by lot” decision. A new deck of cards, eight shuffles and two draws resulted in a 7 of Diamonds and a 5 of Clubs, with Schrenzel taking the win.
