President Trump recently signed an executive order directing the Department of Justice to reschedule Marijuana to a Schedule III controlled substance.
Currently, Marijuana, along with heroin and LSD, is a Schedule I drug. Moving it to Schedule III puts it in the same category as Tylenol with codeine and testosterone. This move will allow for the medical use as well as advance medical research of marijuana.
That said, the trucking industry had safety concerns regarding this change. Sean Duffy, Secretary of Transportation, has stated, regardless of the rescheduling, marijuana “remains unacceptable for any safety-sensitive employee subject to drug testing under the Department of Transportation’s drug testing regulations to use marijuana.”
