The much-needed focus on cargo theft is yielding results. Last month, there were three high-profile arrests.

  1. A New York man was charged with conspiracy and stealing $700K worth of cargo.
  2. Six people in Florida were charged for their part in a major theft organization which carried out at least 32 cargo thefts totaling $7.8M of cargo.
  3. Five individuals were arrested in Los Angeles for their involvement in a cargo theft ring totaling $5M in stolen chassis, trucks, vehicles, and forklifts.

All eyes are on Combating Organized Retail Crime Act (CORCA) which is making its way through the US legislative process. CORCA aims to modernize federal enforcement tools, facilitate cross-departmental and interstate collaboration, aggregate theft cases, and involve the US Department of Homeland Security to improve intelligence sharing.
