At long last, the federal government is taking cargo crimes seriously.
The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act (CORCA) passed the US House last month. CORCA focuses on investigating and prosecuting organized cargo theft rings.
The Building Unrivaled Infrastructure and Long-term Development for America’s 250th Act (BUILD America 250 Act aka surface transportation bill) was introduced in the House last month. It is a five-year, $580 billion transportation bill. It incorporates the SAFER Transport Act, which focuses on the regulatory side of cargo theft by implementing a system to crack down on chameleon carriers, singling out suspicious commercial vehicle registrations and exposing identify theft.
The BUILD America 250 Act also includes $750 million for the construction and expansion of truck parking. Having safe places to park is paramount to driver and cargo safety.
We hope these bills pass.
