President Trump appointed Louis Sola to serve as Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). Mr. Sola was first nominated to the FMC in November 2018. He has been focused on supporting United States exporters.

Mr. Sola’s chairmanship comes at time when the FMC is taking a more active stance in the industry and weighing in on important issues like detention and demurrage and chassis choice…even the Panama Canal.

Speaking of the FMC, there continues to be complaints lodged by cargo owners against ocean carriers for failure to fulfill contracts during the COVID boom, thereby, forcing them to use the expensive spot market. Now, there is a claim launched by CU Lines against Amazon for not fulfilling their contract when freight rates tumbled post-COVID.
