We have been a SmartWay Partner for some time and are pleased to announce we have been named a SmartWay High Performer.

What is a SmartWay High Performer? While thousands of companies partner with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) each year, High Performers are those who take the lead and achieve significant efficiencies.

We are proud to receive this designation and acknowledgement of all we do to put to an environmentally conscious, efficient and safe fleet on the road. In their own words, the EPA congratulates and “commends Devine Intermodal for its continued efforts as a SmartWay Partner and its contribution to a more efficient, productive and sustainable freight industry.”

Very cool!!!

Meanwhile…back at the California Air Resources Board (CARB) ranch, there continues to be a push to force the adoption of zero emission vehicles (ZEV) in the trucking industry by 2024. It does not seem to matter to these regulators there is not the infrastructure, equipment, range or truck tare weight to make it a practical option, much less attainable in such a short timeline.

Case in point, when California suffered from the heatwave last month, power companies asked terminal operators not to plug berthed vessels into shoreside power. The incident was not the first such request. It happens yearly.

By all means, let us rely on a sketchy electrical grid to move freight within the state. By all means, let us rely on sketchy technology that is neither proved nor reliable at the exclusion of intermediary steps which are both.

Have we not learned the lesson of what happens when supply chain fluidity is negatively impacted?
