Recently the ILWU announced they reached an agreement on “certain key issues.” While the details were not released, it has been widely reported the agreement centers around the hiring of an additional top pick operator for each machine working each shift.
April was a rocky month on the West Coast. Intermittent terminal closures and labor shortages negatively impacted cargo flows as well as the psyche of importers and exporters as more and more discretionary cargo migrated to East and Gulf Coast gateways.
Negotiations between the ILWU and the PMA began on May 10, 2022. We are at the one-year mark and hope this milestone will usher in a new contract.
